Mini Cakes
Have you seen a cake the same height as a toothpick? No? Well here is your chance to make one! I made a cake that is nice and gooey from scratch. The good type of gooey, not the undercooked type.
Before we jump into this recipe, let’s talk about baking. If you are new to it, it might seem a bit too difficult to try. Have no fear! We reached out to North’s very own culinary teacher Ms. Prettyman for some pro tips.
She says that one of the most important things when baking cakes is measurements!
She told us to be especially attentive to making sure we prepare the pans correctly so the cake does not stick. Just imagine following a great recipe and when it is time for you to get the cake out of the pan, it gets stuck and crumbles to pieces.
We wouldn’t want that or anything else happening, so here is a link with some tips Ms. Prettyman uses with her students! https://www.bbcgoodfood .com/howto/guide/how-make-cake-top-10-tips-success
If you like a cake that is more on the dry side while still staying moist inside, then I definitely would recommend the Betty Crocker cake mix. You can use a round cake pan or a rectangular one like I did.
Ingredients:

Steps:
Preheat oven to 350°
Gather all the dry ingredients together. This includes flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt
Measure out 1.5 cups of flour and dump into a big bowl
Add the 1.5 cups of sugar, be sure to sift to remove lumps!
Sift in the 1/2 tbsp of baking soda and 3/4 tbsp of baking powder
Add the 1/4 tsp of salt
Whisk together and set aside, get another bowl ready for wet ingredients
Add 2 eggs (you can beat them now or after all wet ingredients are added)
Add 3/4 cups of milk
Add 3/4 cup of water
Add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
Add 1 tsp vanilla extract
Whisk wet ingredients together
Pour wet ingredients onto dry
Use a hand mixer (if you do not have one you can also use a fork, just watch out for lumps)
Pour mixture into cake pan (Be sure to grease it by rubbing butter all over it or by using a nonstick spray!!) and place in the oven, set timer for 35 min
